Belts are used in automobiles to connect and drive two shafts to the motion of a rotary by using pulleys in a series. Various accessories mounted to the engine are powered through the use of this rotary motion. Pumps, exhaust fans and air compressors are all examples of accessories powered in this way and are essential to the successful operation of the vehicle.

Identifying different belts:

V-belts are designed to provide high-traction power and to fit into a V shaped groove. The Poly-V belt is also designed to provide a high-traction form of power, but is flat on the outside with multiple V-shaped grooves on the inside. Similar to the V-belts are V-Link belts. They are open-ended and do not require meal clamps. Using a V-Link is a last resort for when other belts will not reach or fit as they are quite costly and will only carry a small load.

Flat belts are much lighter in weight and function better at high speeds. However they do tend to slip as they do not have a lot of traction. Unlike other drive belts, the Timing belt operates without friction and does not have teeth. This is one of the most important types of belt. They have a small capacity for power compared to the other types of belts.

The function of drive belts:

Drive belts do just what their name implies; they drive different components of the vehicle. The belts themselves are usually quite cheap, but if they break they can severely impair a functioning automobile. If the belt driving a particular component breaks, that component will almost instantly stop working. A component like the pump that pumps the water through the system of the vehicle functions by the use of a drive belt. If the belt breaks the pump will stop working almost instantly and the water it takes to keep the engine cooled will stop and then the engine overheats. Although a broken drive belt is a large problem, a broken serpentine belt can be an even larger one. The serpentine belt drives multiple components at once, so if this belt breaks then multiple functions are compromised.

Why do drive belts break?

Drive belts are made of inexpensive rubber. Even if they do not wear out from use they will dry and crack over time. The belt will break as wear and tear compromises the integrity of the belt.

How hard is it to replace a drive belt?

In some cases, a basic understanding on the engine and its peripheral components is all that is needed to replace a drive belt. A serpentine belt can be pretty complicated so it is probably best left to the professional mechanic. Most professional mechanics recommend that the serpentine belt be changed every thirty-five thousand miles. These belts can last up to sixty thousand miles as can the timing belts.

Accidents can happen to even the best drivers. It may not be your fault. It could be another driver or unexpected weather or road conditions. Finding the best body shop is important when you are having work done on your vehicle. By the time your body work is complete, you want to be sure that there is no residual sign of any problems. This is why having the right shop is essential. Finding the best body shop is easy if you use the following tips.

Finding a body shop for a vehicle that you are still able to drive:

Getting a number of estimates if going to be your first step to finding a good shop. You can get a number of estimates simply by driving to some of the most reputable body shops in the area. Make sure to get estimates from at least three shops so that you can compare the overall price, repair time and service of each body shop. Your insurance company will require this in the case of an accident, but you should still do so if you are paying for the repairs or upgrades yourself. There is no charge for an estimate.

This is the real start of your search for the best body shop. You can begin by comparing the quality and type of quoted materials in each estimate. In some cases a lower estimate may actually list materials that are obviously inferior in comparison with those listed by your other estimates. Choosing this estimate or shop would be a poor idea. It is also important to check on the source of any replacement parts or materials. Rather than use factory-made parts, some shops will use parts sourced from a junk-yard.

When your vehicle is not in driving condition:

In most cases where your vehicle is not able to be driven you will have an insurance quote and a repairs list. You can take this to shops in your area or fax the list and get a quote based on your list.

When you have a quote on the parts list be sure you know where they will be getting their parts, either new from the manufacturer or from the local junk yard. For repairs that need to be repainted, be sure to find out whether the painting will be done just for the spot repaired or for the entire section. You may also need to consider whether it is possible to match pain colors.

Also make sure to consider:

Body shop repairs can be pretty expensive depending on the extent of the damage which makes the body shop you choose a major investment. As with all large decisions, make sure you have gathered as much information as possible. To this end, a call to the Better Business Bureau and or the local Chamber of Commerce is recommended. If you find that there are complaints about the body shop you’ve chosen, you may wish to reconsider.

Price is not the sole factor in choosing the best body shop to repair your vehicle. It is about their reputation for quality work, delivery time and quality of parts used. By finding a body shop that provides quality workmanship at a reasonable price with a reasonable repair time, you can be assured that you have chosen the best body shop.

Uncover the facts about affordable car insurance and inexpensive auto insurance rates at this site.

Automobiles are awesome machines that have occur a long way due to the fact they were very first designed. Back when the Model T was 1st designed it didn’t go extremely fast and couldn’t travel very far, but today’s cars are travelling quicker and farther than ever.

Some automobiles can go up to 400+ miles ahead of having to get a lot more gas. I uncover it fascinating that a box of metal can take somebody from one side from the country all the way to the other in this kind of a short amount of time.

It can be also definitely remarkable to determine some of the new inventions that car makers are available out with every single year. They’re always attempting to occur out with new factors to ensure that they are able to 1+ the competition.

One particular on the most recent new inventions that I saw was inside new Audi’s. The speakers truly listen for your seem of unwanted engine noise, and then they will emit a sound that cancels out the seem of the engine. This actually final results in an highly quiet surrounding and a a lot more enjoyable ride. It doesn’t make much sense to me how making use of seem can cancel out a different sound, but it really is pretty awesome to know that we have stuff like that in today’s cars.

I’m looking forward to the future to determine what the automobile market holds. There’s often new ground-breaking innovations that come out each and every year and I look forward to seeing them. It seems that automobiles will always be around and they are a great way of transportation. If you want to learn more you can visit best forex robots for more information. If you don’t want to take an automobile you can always take a train or a bus as a means of transportation.

When you think of automotive maintenance, your first thought is probably washing and waxing your car and the next is probably changing the oil and filter. Changing your own oil is not only easy, it is one of those tasks that is considered to be a very acceptable weekend DIY project. But do you really save money by doing it yourself?

How much does it cost for you to do it yourself?

In most cases, changing your own oil and filter seems to be fairly cheap. Oil itself is under two dollars per quart, and an oil filter is usually under five dollars. There is of course the purchase of the necessary accessories needed for changing your oil and filter. You will require a wrench to remove the oil filter, as well as a drip pan and funnel for changing the oil. You should be able to change the oil and oil filter in about half an hour. It then costs another couple of dollars to discard the filter and oil oil. It is unlikely that you will save any money on the first change.

Why should you pay to have your oil changed?

Your choice of garage and any coupons you have will affect the price of having your oil and filter professionally changed. Somewhere between twenty and forty dollars is a good estimate. Any good service garage will do more than just change the oil and filter. They will do a quick check on your tires, wash windows, refill the windshield washer tank, and do a check for any potential problems. The cost of paying for an oil change may be worthwhile when considered in conjunction with these extra services. It is always cheaper to fix minor issues before they turn into major problems, and a mechanic may spot these during a routine check.

When should you change your oil and filter?

You will find any number of answers as to how often you should change your oil. For the most part mechanics recommend that you have your car serviced and oil changed every 3,000 miles. For some newer automobiles, you may only need the oil changed every 6,000 miles. You may not need to have the oil filter changed with every service as it is often recommended that they are changed every second oil change.

In many cases, mechanics will still recommend that you change your filter whenever you change your oil. When you leave a dirty filter in your vehicle, this leaves a full quart of old oil in your engine which will remain until the next time you change your filter. This is of course, dirty oil that is left and how can you logically expect an engine to function as efficiently as it does with all clean oil?

When it comes right down to it, why not change the oil and the filter more frequently? Clean oil and a clean oil filter will help to keep your car running more efficiently which will save you money in the long run by avoiding repairs and saving on gas consumption. With all of this in mind, is there really any benefit in changing your own oil and filter after 6,000 miles? Or is it more cost effective in the long run to allow a mechanic to service your vehicle on a regular basis.

The best way to avoid spending excess money and time on your vehicle is with a program of preventative maintenance. By avoiding the need for expensive repairs, you save both the cost of those repairs and the time spent completing them. One of the most simple aspects of vehicle maintenance is keeping a check on the quality of your oil, and having it changed regularly. It is also about keeping the proper air pressure in your tires and checking the tread for wear or cracks. Thirdly, ensure that the belts in your vehicle are kept in good condition and replaced as required.

Checking your vehicle’s belts:

Whether the belts are visibly showing signs of wear and tear they should be changed at the sixty-thousand mile tune-up. Your mechanic should not charge you any additional labor charges to do so as changing the timing belt is already part of the service.

Before checking the belts yourself make sure to turn off the engine. Both the engine and the belts themselves must be cool before you reach under the hood. Pull the hood release under the dashboard and reach underneath hood from the front of the vehicle to release the latch. The hood release can be squeezed or slid to open.

Directly in front of the vehicle’s engine you will be able to see the belts. On a rear wheel drive vehicle, the engine is located close to the front bumper, near the radiator. On a front wheel drive vehicle, the engine is located towards the fender.

The number of belts may vary.

Depending on the type of vehicle, you may find a varying number of belts. The belts are responsible for driving components such as the alternator, fan and water, smog and power steering pumps. As such, they are collectively called drive belts. There will be a minimum of two belts on your vehicle. The belts run over pulleys and as you locate them you can press the belt lightly with your thumb in the middle of the longest part of the belt. What you are checking for is tension of the belt. The amount of give you should find in the belt will be detailed in your vehicle’s owner manual. In most cases, pressing gently should cause the belt to give less than an inch.

If the belt is beginning to show signs that it’s beginning to dry out or crack, make a note of this. It is normal to notice a small amount of cracking on the belt. However there should not be larger chunks missing.Check for missing pieces or large cracks but note that some small cracking is normal and nothing to worry about. You may also notice some minor rust discoloration. This is also fine. As the belt operates, a fine dust is created and this will rust over time. It is nothing to worry about. This is particularly true of the belt for the air conditioning clutch. If you find obvious signs of wear, or the belt seems to have too much give, then you will need to have the belt replaced before it breaks. A screeching sound when you hit the gas is an indication that the belt is too lose. In this case, the belt will need to either be replaced or tightened. It can work out to be quite costly should a belt break.

No matter what vehicle you drive there are two factors involved in improving gas mileage.

How you drive your car and how you maintain it are the two factors. Maintenance is the easiest factor to approach and your driving habits actually have more of an impact on mileage.

To keep your car running at its most fuel efficient, there are three key areas: engine tuning and maintenance, tire inflation and use of the recommended grade of motor oil.

Typically you will save 4 percent of your fuel usage if you tune your engine rather than letting it fail its emission test. You can save as high as 40 percent on fuel usage if something dramatic had to be fixed like a faulty oxygen sensor which would mess the ratio of fuel and air. Typically, however, if gas is $2.75, a tune up can save you the equivalent of 11 cents per gallon in increased fuel efficiency.

Tires are safer and last longer when they have the right air pressure. The air pressure that your tires need is usually in the driver’s side door jam, t is also in the car’s owner’s manual. The maximum level of pressure which is printed on the tires should not be followed. Keeping your tires properly inflated can improve fuel economy up to 3 percent, saving you about 8 cents per gallon.

You can improve your mileage by one or two percent saving 3 to 6 cents per gallon at the gas pump all by just following instructions and using the correct motor oil.

25 cents per gallon is what you are looking to save at the pump by adjusting all of those mechanical issues.

It can cost you $1.50 per gallon or more by keeping bad driving habits. Unlike mechanical problems someone cannot come along and take away your bad driving habits for you.

Bad drivers are the ones that are in a hurry racing through traffic, they accelerate rapidly and also stop too quickly. Driving like that lowers your mileage 5 percent around town and as much as 10 mpg on the highway, that’s 30 percent on the highway. That costs you as much as 91 cents extra per gallon.

Driving too fast is second in line when it comes to fuel wastage. For every 5 mph you are traveling more than 60mph speeding you actually drop 11 percent of you gas mileage. So traveling at 70 mph you will lose 50 cents per gallon, that is just an increase of 10 mph.

Idling and carrying too much weight are also costing you ñ 100 pounds can cost an extra 6 cents per gallon. Your engine can be slowed yet still maintain it’s speed through the use of overdrive gears while driving on the highway, cruise control also saves your mileage.

Follow these steps and save money at the fuel pump, get into the good driving habits to help reduced the gas you are using and be sure that your car is mechanically sound.

Most American’s find it extremely difficult to live without a dependable mode of transportation. The most convenient form of transportation is owning your own vehicle. This is true even in areas where there is easily available public transport. If you want your vehicle to be reliable whenever you use it, correct maintenance and repairs are essential. Keeping your vehicle well-maintained and repaired is important if you want your car to function correctly every time you need to use it. Finding the best auto shop in your area is then also very important but can be a little confusing considering most areas offer many, many choices.

Simple tips for choosing the best auto repair shop:

Start by asking friends, family members and colleagues which auto repair shop they use. There is no better recommendation than that of someone else who uses their services. Much as you would when searching for any other business, try to build a full picture of the shop’s business ethics. The Better Business Bureau can help with this by advising if there are any negatives against the auto repair shop.

A good auto repair shop should also have a well presented reception area with good lighting and up-to-date equipment. Always check the mechanic’s certification, which should be on display. This certification shows that the mechanics are licensed for business in your area. You will also want to check that the mechanic’s certification covers the manufacturer of your vehicle. The mechanics should at least have a general kind of certification which should read ASE.

It is important that your make and model of vehicle is one with which the mechanic or auto repair shop that you’ve chosen is familiar. Likewise, always make sure that the mechanic working on your vehicle is proficient with the specific auto system being worked on, such as brakes or electricals, rather than just a basic mechanic.

Other aspects to consider:

Assuming that you have now found a couple shops that have good equipment and mechanics that are well certified and experienced for working on your make and model of vehicle there is another consideration. Does the shop offer any kind of additional benefits or services? For instance, some shops have loaners for customers who need extensive work done on their vehicles or they may have a connection with a local car rental company. This becomes important when it will take a few days to repair your vehicle and you need a way to get back and forth to work. It is also important to check the shop’s opening days and hours.

Have you checked your vehicle’s warranty?

Make sure you take into consideration whether your vehicle is under warranty. It is important that the auto repair shop you have chosen is authorized to perform repairs without nullifying your warranty.

Now that you have made your choice:

Ideally, you should choose an auto repair shop before you actually need to have any repair work done on your vehicle. If possible, have a series of small services such as brake system checks and oil changes done in order to build rapport with the auto shop. In some cases, you may be able to have safety checks and simple services done free of charge. Repairs are always more expensive than preventative care.

If you still have more than one choice in repair shops, you can easily narrow this down by pricing. Saving money is always a big consideration as long as the quality is present.

Unlike Television or broadcast radio waves, with a cb radio we can talk back.

Always meant for short range communications, CB radio has still fended off the test of time and technological innovation.

1. Licensing. Unlike other parts of the world, US cb radio users no longer need a license. Inside the US CB radio is regulated by the FCC. CB in the USA uses AM radio. The European CB Radio operates on FM frequencies.

2. CB choices.CB radio sets come in three possible types. These are CB Base Station ,mobile in-vehicle units and Handheld CB Radios. Handheld CB Radio units can be very useful, but usually have more limited range than in-vehicle or base station radios, this is partly because they are lower power, and partly because they have much shorter antennae.

3. Call Signs. There are no official call signs in the USA, though there are in other countries such as the UK. Many US CB radio users have a cool nickname or ‘handle’

4. CB Radio Channels. CB useres currently have 40 standard channels in the US. Channel 9 must always be kept for emergencies and the recommendation is to keep channels on either side free so any trafiic on channel nine can be heard clearly.

5. Squelch. The squelch dial on your radio is designed to get rid of all the irritating beeps, squeaks and static. If you tune your squelch a little you can eliminate irritations noises. You should be able to hear any station trying to break through.

6. Long Distance Communication. CB radio is designed for short ranged communication.

Depending on atmospheric conditions you can “shoot skip” for hundreds if not thousands of miles. Take care when communicationg with someone far away. Current US law prohibits communicating via CB radio from a range of over 150 miles.

7. Cb radios can be useful in lots of situations, not just when travelling or communicating from a vehicle to a home base. Base stations cb radios can be life savers in an emergency and people often set them up to run on alternative sources of energy. The ability to meet new people will probably continue to keep cb radio alive despite the threat of advancing technology. The beauty of cb radio is it allows communication even in isolated areas to break up the monotony.

Every vehicle needs it’s finish taken good care of and that refers to every car, the showroom luxury car, the car with high-mileage, the off-road car and the barely driven car.

With the use of proper protection paint treatments and the use of the right equipment a car’s exterior finish can be kept from cracking and damage along with the inside of the car.

Washing the exterior very thoroughly is important. While hosing off at a car wash beats leaving your car covered in dirt, a proper cleaning usually requires more than water pressure. Many things that ruin your car’s finish need to be removed and these are, bird droppings, salt and dirt.

Use a car cleaning liquid and be sure it is not made for anything other than that. Dish detergent, often used when washing at home, can strip wax and damage the finish.

When washing start from the top and make your way down, do not forget to get the extra dirt which piles on at the bottom of your car. Do not start with a rough sponge, use a weaker one first to see how hard you will have to go. Too much pressure will damage the finish so be careful. Rely instead on choosing products designed to remove whatever you have on your car.

So now that you have cleaned the entire outside of the car you must do the inside, it is just as important. Your comfort will increase when you travel in a clean car so throw out all rubbish inside the car. When you have leather seats or any other material you must properly protect them by wiping them over with UV resistant polish.

You have to see through your windows so properly clean them with a good window cleaning solution. People get into accidents because of many different reasons, but one of the reasons is impaired vision and when you let grime build up on the inside of your windows your vision becomes impaired. Especially in the interior of smokers cars you will notice a thick film on the glass.

Once your vehicle is clean, you’ll want to think about protecting your work with wax or polish. They help to preserve the finish and wither polish or wax will help it maintain a glossy look. Polish and wax in the shade to protect the car and only begin a new small area once you have completed the first small area. The paint will damage if you let your car dry completely.

Even the tires car be brought back to life with strengthening sprays that bring back the black to them.

So you have thought all of the things that we just mentioned over and decided that you cannot do it because it is too hard, do not worry. For a pretty cheap and reasonable price there are professional car cleaning places that can do all of the work for you.

Even if your old truck’s odometer is over 100,000 you may not be thinking about buying a new truck, despite your mortgage eating up your income and the fact that your 401k has tanked.

Keeping your old can well looked after and on the road is a better option than buying a new one, of course there are perks in new trucks with them being more fuel efficient but the truck you already have is paid off completely.

With proper maintenance the trucks of today will have no problem surviving the 100,000 mile mark but on the other hand trucks that were built decades ago were not expected to last that long. Vehicle and oil commercials may help reassure you when they talk about how long their truck or truck has lasted, or the special benefits of a lubricant to an engine that has seen a lot of miles.

The number on the odometer is not the only factor involved in high mileage. Generally you will be searching through trucks and trucks that have more than 75,000 miles when ideally a two-year-old vehicle with 50,000 will qualify. At that point, you should expect that the vehicle isn’t running like it did when it was new.

As the miles on a truck increase the performance decreases they both go hand in hand. The wearing down of the components in the main engine as well as the hoses and belts continue to happen. By caring for these parts that support the truck it is the easiest way of looking after your truck. Make sure belts and hoses are replaced when needed to help avoid loss of lubricants or overheating. Rather than replacing larger more expensive components by fixing and changing these smaller items you will save more money and it is easier to do so.

An old truck needs constant maintenance. Absolutely everything from the air and oil filters to the hoses, belts and fluids must be changed to keep the truck running well.

Oil must be changed regularly so keep an eye on it. Oil leaks especially in old trucks must be addressed because they cause engines to eventually die and wear much quicker. Instead of waiting for the light to appear on the dash telling you to change or fill your oil, check it weekly. Check the oil periodically, set your own timetable and ask your mechanic {you may have a frequent one that knows your old truck very well for some advice on changing oils to improve the mileage and extend the life of your engine.~Your mileage and engine life can be extended with a little advice from your mechanic about special oils and additives. Check your oil often and set a routine up.} Have transmission fluid checked as well, and filters for air, oil and transmission changed as needed.

Be sure to check the pressure of your tires and how worn they are. Vehicles tend to run better when the tires are at the correct pressure. To keep your truck running straight and smooth and your tires wearing how they should a wheel alignment is necessary.

Listen to how your vehicle sounds and notice how it feels. You have had it for a while so any noises will be familiar to you. The noises that a truck makes will change as it ages but any drastic changes must be referred to a mechanic. A major problem with your truck can begin as a small insignificant problem then grow, everything must be addressed.
